Resurrection Bay Historical Society Objectives
- To collect, preserve and make accessible to the public materials that help establish and illustrate the history of the Seward area.
- To stimulate interest and disseminate information about the history of the Seward area.
- To encourage the preservation of historical buildings, structures and sites in the Seward area.
Activities
The series "Thursdays: Our History" will feature Sue McClure's presentation My Favorite Seward Oldtimers starting at 7 pm April 18 in the Seward Community Library & Museum. RBHS will hold its next membership meeting at 7 pm Wednesday, April 25 in the Seward Museum. To become a member of RBHS and to help support the preservation of local history, please complete a membership form and mail it to RBHS, PO Box 55, Seward, AK 99664. All members receive a monthly newsletter and gain free admission to the museum.
Seward Museum
Museum hours: The museum is open 12 - 5 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Admission is free! For more information about museum operations, check out the Seward Community Library & Museum website. Our gift case has many interesting books, plus we're the only place you can buy a Seward Flag. A perfect tool for historians is Mary Barry's three-volume "Seward, Alaska: History of the Gateway City", which sells for $22 per volume or just $60 for the set.
Collection
The Resurrection Bay Historical Society collection of objects, photographs and archives has a home in the museum portion of the Seward Community Library & Museum at 239 Sixth Ave. The Society also maintains an index of obituaries of local residents. Resurrection Bay Historical Society is pleased to accept donations to its collection of objects, photographs and archives connected to the history of Seward and surrounding area. To make a donation, contact the historical society (see address above) and give a description of the item and a photo if possible. All donations must be accompanied by a signed and dated Deed of Gift
